Symptom 1: Synced Drone and Remote but Rotors Not Spinning

The problem starts when you see the rotors of the Mini Orion are not spinning. You have synced the drone to the remote. Yet, the rotor blades are at a standstill.

Reason: Not Turning On the AUTOPILOT Button

The main reason the rotors aren’t spinning is that the AUTOPILOT button is off. This button allows the drone to fly autonomously by enabling the remote control.

Don’t worry. It’s not a serious problem and you can fix it quite easily.

Solution: Power On the AUTOPILOT Button

So, your main goal should be to enable the AUTOPILOT button. For this, you have to simply press the AUTOPILOT button once. As soon as it starts working, check the rotor blades. They should be spinning by now!

Symptom 2: The Drone Isn’t Responding but Transmitter Light is Flashing

Moving to the next problem, you notice that the drone is not responding at all. Fair enough. But why is the transmitter light flashing? Well, there is only one reason why it happens.

Reason: The Transmitter Cannot Sync With the Drone

Yes, there is a syncing problem with your drone. When the transmitter cannot properly sync with the drone, the drone won’t respond.

So, you have to sync the drone with the transmitter so that this problem gets solved.

Solution: Sync the Transmitter with the Drone Correctly

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to sync your Mini Orion drone with the transmitter:

  • First, you have to power on the drone transmitter. If there is a yellow light flashing, this means the drone is already powered on.
  • Then, open the app and tap on the following options: enter the device> enter the camera view> tap linking remote controller> Okay.
  • After that, you have to press and hold the drone link button for 3 seconds.
  • Finally, you’ll hear a beeping sound with a red light. Once the drone and the transmitter are synced, the beeping sound will stop and you’ll see a solid green light.

That’s it! Your drone is ready to respond!

Symptom 3: The Drone isn’t Responding At All

Now, there are times when the drone doesn’t respond at all. You can’t even see the transmitter light flashing. What should you do then?

Well, you should know the reasons first. A drone can’t respond for multiple reasons and each of them brings a different solution on demand.

Reason 1: The Transmitter and Drone are OFF

As you saw in the previous section, the drone and transmitter need to sync. If one of them is OFF, the drone can’t read the signal. As a result, the drone won’t fly. Just like when a Propel Batwing has a flying problem

Solution: Turn on the Transmitter and the Drone

I think you can already guess what you have to do. Simply, turn ON the transmitter and the drone. Follow the syncing process as described in the solution part of Symptom 2 above.

Reason 2: Incorrect Battery Installation

When you fail to install the batteries correctly, the drone won’t respond. All of it depends on whether you have maintained the correct polarity setting up the batteries.

Solution: Maintain the Correct Polarity when Battery Installation

I’ll describe the battery installation process for both the transmitter and the drone.

Let’s start with the transmitter battery installation. Here’s what you have to do:

  • At first, remove the battery cover by loosening the screws.
  • Then, take 4 AA batteries and install them. Make sure the positive and negative polarities are maintained properly.
  • Finally, place the battery cover back and screw it tightly.

Caution: Make sure you never mix old and new batteries while installing. The same goes for installing different types of batteries for the same purpose.

Now, let’s go fix the batteries inside the drone. Here’s what you’ll do:

  • At first, take a screw and open the battery compartment of the drone.
  • Then, take the red plug and connect it to the power port inside.
  •  Now, insert the batteries into the battery compartment with the right polarity.
  • Finally, close the battery cover and you’re done!

After you’re done installing, switch ON the power button of the drone. If the drone is responding, this means you did the job!

Reason 3: Drained Out Transmitter Batteries

Another reason could be the transmitter batteries are not working anymore. They completely drained out.

Solution: Replace with Fresh New Batteries

The best solution to drained-out batteries is to replace them. The transmitter batteries are already dead. So, get a fresh pack of batteries and install them like in the previous section.

Symptom 4: The Drone isn’t Responding But the Transmitter Light is ON

Here’s another drone unresponsive scenario where the transmitter light is ON. This is almost similar to symptom 2 but with a different twist.

Reason: Drained Out Drone Batteries

Unlike the previous problem, here the culprit is the drone batteries. The lipo batteries might not charge. When these batteries get drained out, the drone doesn’t respond.

Solution: Charge the Drone Batteries

The solution is pretty simple here. By charging the drone’s battery pack, you can make the drone responsive again. And if it’s damaged and you can replace it with Hizli battery packs.

Symptom 5: Drone Can’t Take Off but the Rotors are Spinning

A lot of the time, you might see the drone is unable to take off. Even though the rotor blades can spin! And this happens due to 3 specific reasons.

Reason 1: Damaged Rotor Blades

If the rotor blades have internal damage, the drone can’t function. It’s also not a safe option to fly the drone with damaged rotor blades.

Solution: Install New Rotor Blades

There’s no reason to keep damaged parts, right? So, you should take out the damaged rotor blades and replace them with Blade Main rotor blades. Your problem will get solved instantly!

Reason 2: The Drone’s Batteries are Drained Out

This is a common reason for take-off problems. Usually, when drone batteries get drained out completely, they can’t fly.

Solution: Charge the Drone Battery Pack

You know what to do now! Just like the solution I described in symptom 4, you have to charge the drone batteries. You’ll see the drone flying high even with the rotor spin ON.

Reason 3: The Drone is on an Uneven Surface

Sometimes, placing the drone on an uneven surface can disrupt the drone’s sensors. The receiver and transmitter can’t read the signals properly. As a result, the drone doesn’t follow commands and doesn’t take off.

Solution: Place the Drone on a Flat Surface

So, the most viable option is to place the drone on an even surface before the flight. It’s best if you could find a concrete floor. Keep the drone straight and let it take off without any obstacles.

Symptom 6: The Drone is Shaking when Flying

Now if your Mini Orion drone is shaking while flying, it’s not a good sign. It happens when the rotor blades are damaged. So, all you have to do is replace the blades with new rotor blades. Make sure to take good care of the new blades!

Symptom 7: The Drone Moves Flying Without Transmitter Input

Here’s another type of flying problem. The drone might move even though you didn’t enter any transmitter input.

This happens when the trims are not properly adjusted. So, by taking care of the trim, you can easily solve this problem.

Symptom 8: Drone Moves Forward After Adjusting the Trim

Now, you adjusted the trim as I described in the earlier section. But you still see the drone is moving forward. Strange, isn’t it?

Well, this means the problem is with the gyroscope. The midpoint of the gyroscope is off. So, here’s what you should do to overcome this issue:

  • First, turn off the transmitter and the drone together.
  • Then, keep the drone on a flat surface.
  • Turn on the power and let the drone take off.

So, it’s basically, giving your drone a reboot. This is how you can have the problem fixed.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What happens if a drone goes too far?

Nothing serious happens if your drone goes too far away from the range. Modern drones like the Mini Orion have built-in GPS technology. So, even if the drone goes out of range, it is capable to come back using the home position in the GPS.

How do I know my drone range?

To know your drone range you have to calculate three parameters. These are the wing area, the weight of the drone, and the coefficient lift of the airfoil. Combining these three parameters, you can calculate the range of your drone.

How long can drones stay flying?

Drones can stay up to 20 to 40 minutes flying in the air. However, high-end drones have the capacity to be on the air for hours. So, it depends on the type and brand of your drone.

Conclusion

That’s all! Though Mini Orion can give you many headaches the troubleshooting is pretty simple. By reading this article I hope you got a full view of Mini Orion Drone troubleshooting.
