Skytracker Drone Troubleshooting: Step by Step Guide!

So, you’re in dire need of gathering all the problems and troubleshooting them. Get relaxed and go forward.

Because I’ll be discussing sky tracker drone troubleshooting. 

Probably your sky tracker drone is not connecting to the controller or smartphone. You need to make sure the charger is fully charged. Then, the drone can suffer from faulty calibration problems. In this case, you should ensure the environment is fully appropriate for the flight.

Problem 1: The Drone Is Not Connecting to the Controller Or Smartphone.

Before each flight, the drone needs to pair up with the controller or your smartphone. But they are prone to technical failure and connection glitches. Failure to pair is the most common issue a drone flyer is going to face.

There might be two possibilities in this case. Low batteries and faulty mobile applications are causing the probable unsuccessful pairing.

In most cases, controller will not pair up with the drone because the batteries have insufficient charge. They might also be dead due to heavy usage. In the case of the smartphone, Wi-fi network issues and not updating the app will produce problems.


Let us indulge in the solution one by one. I will discuss solutions for both the remote control and your smartphone.

  •   Make sure your remote control is fully charged. Don’t turn it on while charging. Use any computer USB port to charge the controller.
  • Use the provided cable to charge your drone’s battery. For best results, use a 5V, 1-2A charger. After 3-4 hours, it will charge properly, and the LED indicator will turn off. Don’t forget to wait at least 30 minutes before flying your drone.
  • For smartphones, go to the Appstore of your mobile’s respective operating system. Search for the “Skytracker Drone” app and install the latest version.
  •  Turn on your drone, and make sure your remote controller is switched off. If the lights on the arms will flash, it will open up its Wi-fi network. Connect to this network from your smartphone’s settings menu, and voila!

Problem 2: Faulty Calibration

Calibration with the controller is a step-by-step process that you need to follow chronologically. Skipping any step will result in total failure, and you have to redo it from the start. 

Also, your drone has an internal gyroscope to ensure a smooth fight. So, it is also necessary to calibrate the gyroscope for a balanced experience.


Before preparing to calibrate, make sure to have a suitable environment for flight. Always keep the drone on a flat and smooth surface. Let’s begin!

  • Turn on your remote controller, and you will hear a beep. Hold the power button to switch on your drone. The LED light will flash rapidly
  •  With both devices turned on, pick up the joystick. Pull the throttle stick all the way up and then all the way down and hold it there. If you hear a beeping sound, they are calibrated perfectly.

For the internal gyroscope, pull the throttle and directional stick all way down and left simultaneously. After 10 seconds, when you release them, you will notice the lights on your drone will flash. 

After that, it will remain illuminated once calibrated. Your directional stick has to be the best one. I am using DJI smart controller, you may check. 

Problem 3: The Drone is Flying Erratically

After solving pre-flight problems, you may face in-flight ones which can severely damage your drone. If the motors are spinning wrongly or the propeller is not secured, you will lose control of your aircraft.


Lack of control is a sincere issue. The few moving parts of your machine are the most important factors. So, make sure everything is in order.

  • Firstly, we check if the motors are rotating in the right direction. Without adding the propellers, mark the direction of rotation on the airframe and motor. 
  •  Then, Verify the left-hand and right-hand blades are mounted on appropriate motors. If the propellers are inverted, it will flip the drone, so double-check the placement.
  • Secondly, the propellers or blades should not be installed upside down. Check for any dust particles or hair in between to ensure a smooth flight. Make sure they spin in the direction that makes the air go downward. Since your engine consists of 2 blades propeller, it’s faster than the 3 -blade ones. But maneuvering is difficult, so be steady and patient.  

The concavity of the blade should be curved down and have zero bending. Also, don’t forget to tightly connect the propellers to motors by securing the bolts.

Problem 4: GPS or Radio System Failure

Flying drones must get proper GPS signals to have a stable flying experience. Also, displacement of the antenna will result in a faulty wireless system. If the drone is not connecting to CPS, there may not be a strong COS signal available. 

Geomagnetic De-calibration is also a cause of failure to track over GPS. Exceeding the communication range of your device will activate the fail-safe mode.


Getting a spacious place to fly is the key to success for any wireless system. The less interference, the better experience you will get. After having a clear line of sight, let’s get down to the technical aspects of the problem.

  •  Check the radio range of your aircraft from your manual. Most of the time, it is limited to approximately 300 meters. So always maintain the limited range of the transmitter.
  • If you need to increase your signal strength, get an amplifier. It will significantly increase the distance. Also, make sure the antenna is placed correctly on the body of your drone. Fly at lower altitudes and always consider the weather. If it’s rainy or windy, you better stay home and do something else.
  • To re-calibrate the geomagnetic compass, put your drone on a flat and stable surface. Press and hold the geomagnetic calibration button on your controller. After you hear beeping, you can start the calibration. 
  • Continuously rotate the body horizontally while spinning it in a clockwise direction. When flashing white light emerges. The lights on the back of your drone will shine yellow.

Then,  turn the head downwards and rotate it vertically until the lights stop blinking. Congratulation! You have successfully completed the calibration.

Some Tips for Proper Maintenance

While using your sky tracker drone, basic safety precautions should always be mentioned. I have put together some useful tips for you.

  •   Make sure the aircraft is properly assembled before operation. Always seek help from the manual.
  •   Keep the device away from obstacles like power lines, trees, and water. Maintain a 2-meter (7 feet) distance when taking off and landing.
  • Avoid excessive heat or flames, especially while charging the battery
  • Always Keep your drone away from water and moisture. Use a dry soft cloth to clean the outbound parts. Use a hauler bag to keep your toy in perfect condition.
  •  Keep the small parts and pieces away from children to avoid choking hazards. Also, don’t let them operate without adult supervision.

Mostly, drones can fly in heavy wind. But it totally depends on the quality of your drone. The drone has a ⅔ maximum speed and can easily travel within winds. But the drone will fail to fly if the wind is stronger than ⅔ speed.

Unfortunately, you can’t track your lost sky trucker drone. Even though you know the serial number and last fight location, you won’t find out your stolen drone.  Actually, the sheer volume gets changed regularly, which is why you can’t find your stolen drone.
