A brushed motor uses physical carbon brushes that wear down and need replacing. Brushless motors use sensored or sensorless electronic commutation instead, which means less friction, higher efficiency and a longer service life, but it requires an ESC built for brushless timing rather than a brushed-only unit.

Scale is printed on the box or chassis (1/8, 1/10, 1/16, and so on) and refers to the ratio between the model and a full-size vehicle. A 1/8 scale truck runs roughly 17-18 inches long, while a 1/16 scale truck is closer to 10 inches, and the two use entirely different battery and part standards.

Most crawler builds run heavier oil, in the 40-50 weight range, than a bash-oriented truck would use, because slow, controlled articulation over obstacles needs more damping resistance than high-speed suspension compression does.

Check resting voltage with a multimeter first. A NiMH or LiPo pack that won't hold voltage under load, feels swollen, or shows a voltage imbalance between cells on a balance-charger readout is failing and should be retired rather than pushed further.

A stock-class 2WD short course truck with a brushed 550 motor and a basic 2S LiPo is a reasonable starting point. Most drivers upgrade to brushless and a stiffer set of shocks once they've outgrown the stock power band.

Yes. 2WD and 4WD Traxxas platforms use different diffs, driveshafts and in some cases different motor mounts, so parts aren't interchangeable across drivetrain layouts even within the same model line.

Only if the connector, voltage (cell count) and physical size match the battery tray. A 3S pack sized for an E-Maxx won't necessarily fit or wire into a Slash without an adapter, and running the wrong cell count risks damaging the ESC.
